The purpose of the BTEC Higher National Certificate in Business is to develop you as a professional, self-reflecting individual able to meet the demands of employers in the business sector and adapt to a constantly changing world.
During this course, you will gain a wide range of business knowledge tied to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios.
By the end of this course, you will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of business. You will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as general skills and qualities relevant to key areas of business.
The Level 5 Higher National Certificate in Business Studies undergoes comprehensive internal assessment, wherein assignments are established, graded, and evaluated by an internally devised framework, with assignments crafted by the awarding body Pearson. This framework is designed to enhance industrial thinking and address real-life scenarios.
Both HNC and HND core units are subject to assessment by Pearson’s mandatory assessors, who focus on specific skills within the assignments. While Pearson assesses one core unit for HNC and two core units for HND, the remaining units are evaluated through internally devised assessments administered by the internal centre. Assessors are mandated to illustrate their decision-making process by adhering to the criteria delineated in the assessment records.
Following the completion of assessments for a particular unit by a student, the assessment team determines the unit’s grade based on the number of specified criteria achieved. Student work is internally assessed by the College, and subsequently reviewed by an External Verifier, resulting in the student achieving a Pass, Merit, or Distinction for each unit.
